This choc brownie of AL's from her latest book was delish.but very very heavy, so eat in tiny portions! Just finished it. This receipe makes a fair bit.made so much in fact that I placed half in freezer for school lunches.well that has been removed from freezer and eaten already to, by kids! :-)
THE ULTIMATE CHOC BROWNIES
Prep Time10 mins + 20 mins standing Cook time50 mins (160c) Makes about 30 pieces
2 cups choopped dates 1 tsp baking soda 3/4 cup boiling water 200g finely diced butter room temp 4 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 2 cups caster sugar 1 cup dark cocoa sifted 1 cup flour 1/2 tsp baking soda 250gr choc chips or dark choc cut into small pieces
Preheat oven 160c and line a 30 x 24 slice tin linded with baking paper.
Put dates into large bowl add baking soda and boiling water stir to combine, leave to stand for 20mins
Mash soften dates with a fork to break them up. Stir in the eggs and vanilla until well combined.Stir in the sugar then add the cocoa, flour and baking powder and stir until smooth.Stir in the chocolate chips.
Smooth into prepared tin and bake until it is set in the pan and beigns to come away from the sides. Cool before cutting into squares. Stored in a air tight container it will keep for a couple of weeks, OR NOT if you are in our household, including one always hungry12 yr old boy!
