Has anyone got the steel yet as I'm wondering if it's any good. I've bought steels before and they have become useless very quickly.

aktow, Mar 16, 1:54pm
you must tell all those online american knife storesthat. they have all thecolored fibrox handle knives at the same price.

nz knife stores are a rip off. tonight i bought from america a 19cm , 22cm and a 25cm rosewood handle victorinoxchef knives for $173 nzincluding freight, while the cheapest i could get them in new zealand was $252.50 not including postage. i say letsdo more shopping overseas and let the over charging nz stores go broke.

Mmmm, typical comment. You paid far more for that set that you would have here LOL, by about $25When you are in retail, you might actually understand how it works.you have no clue whatsoever. Also bear in mind, you are paying NO duty because your knives cost less than NZD$400 including shipping. Every container of goods bought into NZ attracts customs duty. Also bear in mind that retailers buy from distributors here in NZ who set the wholesale price. Bear in mind you dont have shop rent, power, phone, bank charges, eftpos machine hire, cash register hire, staff wages, rates and business insurance to pay.and you reckon you could do better!pffft. Set yourself up in a proper retail store, do the math, then tell us that.you wouldnt be so cocky then.

Oh and in regards to the coloured handles.we are not talking about white, black blue and red ( which are the standard colours) we are talking bright pink, lime green and bright yellow. They are dearer than the bog sgtandard colours due to the colouring process of the plastic handles

And here is an example

http://www.chefscatalog.com/product/25413-victorinox-forschner-paring-knife.aspx

This knife is about NZD$1.40 cheaper than what I sell.beaaring in mind you need to add freight LOL

who cares.aktow .is happy.
That is what it is all about, my son buys a lot off shore, he gets a big kick out his savings as well.

We are seriously ripped off in NZ for good quality knives.I am lucky also and can get mine from USA when travelling and I know retailers have to 'clip the ticket' on the way but with the dollar being so good at them moment, now is the time to buy!

cookessentials, Mar 18, 8:20am
was I talking to you!

cookessentials, Mar 18, 8:22am
It is not about retailers "clipping the ticket" that is where many people get confused.retailers do not buy directly from manufacturers.distributors do.

A sharp knife that holds an edge and wont cost the earth - Vitronoxknives$11 from King of Knives in most malls. They look cheap but they are deadly sharp and stay that way for years if used properly.

aktow, Mar 18, 2:29pm
You paid far more for that set that you would have here LOL, by about $25
what rubbish,, first i checked over 10 stores including house of knives and no way were they cheaper here.i was a head chef for years and i rang a few of my old suppliers and i asked what the price of the knives are at cost.

quality knives have what i ordered NZ $73.00 NZ $83.00NZ $96.50
so your comment cheaper here,, yeah right lol

margyr, Mar 18, 5:39pm
well I got 2 of the knives from countdown yesterday, utility and big cooks knife, quite happy with them so far, and they were free.

toadfish, Mar 18, 6:24pm
I have just filled up a sheet, what can people reccommend!

chynna2, Mar 18, 11:14pm
I just got the large santoku knife today.I got that because another shopper saw me looking at them and trying to decide which one to get.She told me they were great for cutting up vegetables (and in particular tomatos!).

margyr, Mar 18, 11:29pm
I did wonder what the santoku knives would be used for, perhaps if I get another sheet filled up before the end of the promotion I will get one.

player_smurf, Mar 18, 11:56pm
So the distributors 'clips the ticket' and so does the retailer! Of course this has to be done other wise your business would go down the gurgler if you were selling the goods for exactly the same price as you bought them for.

olwen, Mar 19, 12:12am
I have some victorinox knives, including a small one I love that got at Westmeat. They are several dollars dearer at Mitre 10

olwen, Mar 19, 12:19am
About $6.40 for one with about a 100 mm blade at Westmeat

sebastian55, Mar 19, 5:55am
So every $20 gets you a stamp. Just one of the cheap knives means spending $600 and if you want the set! Well that will mean $2100 worth of shopping, plus $8-12 on top of each knife. Unless you get help from people who do not want to collect their stamps there is no way you can reasonably collect them all. Or to even look at the knife block.

lyl_guy, Mar 19, 6:30am
I haven't spent a cent more than what I usually spend at countdown. So the knives are free.

margyr, Mar 19, 7:00am
me too, and where I live countdown is the only supermarket so have not spent any more than usual, and as lyl_guy said this makes the knives free.

chynna2, Mar 19, 7:24am
Same here.Countdown is my closest supermarket, and the one I go to regularly - so getting something "free" just for shopping as I usually would is a good deal in my eyes!

kiwiscrapper1, Mar 19, 8:07am
I keep them in my wallet and if I'm at the checkout and the person in front Says they are collecting them, I give them mine, I have a set of Wusrhof from Germany, I do get them sharpened professionally every year and they are great!

barbra1, Mar 19, 10:02am
victorinox from the hunting fishing type stores. one of my other long lasting knives came from $2 shop, came with its own chopping boardand still has a good edge 4 yrs later. has only just strarted to need a short flik on thesteel for sharpen again for ages.

kuaka, Mar 19, 10:16am
And you don't have to collect them all, just collect the stamps sufficient for those knives that you do want - as for the knife block - you don't need stamps for that. It's just a straight purchase, nothing to do with stamps.
