Hi ladies , firstly hope you all had a lovely christmas.
I was given a macaron recipe book and the basic recipe calls for almond flour. Can you please tell me where I would buy this.
Thanks in advance.

Go to Countdown/Foodtown/Woolworth - there are some good sized packs available there, in the baking aisle.

That's what I used when I made some. They were good too.
Don't forget to leave them to sit for 30 - 45 minutes bsfore baking.

I was told that almond flour was the residues from pressing almond oil. It is much drier and very fine. It is sold in America but not usually exported.

Almond meal is just ground almonds and you can easily do that at home in a blender or food processor or a small spice mill.

In NZ we only ever get almond meal.

almond meal is what you use in macarons

That's right.I have bought almond flour from Huckleberry Farms and it is similar to coconut flour - slightly gritty, very absorbent and not much use for anything really.Almond meal (ground almonds) is what is needed for macaroons and most conventional baking.
