And lastly, of the Lilac ones I can identify is the Christmas cake recipe.I give fair warning, I nearly choked at the list of ingredients.
Five eggs 1 lb flour Half lb sugar three quarters lb buter Half lb mixed peel Quarter lb almonds Three quarters lb raisins Three quarters lb sultanas Three quarters lb currants Half lb cherries Three quarter tspn baking soda three quarter cup of milk 1 tspn spice (it doesn't say what kind) 1 tspn nutmeg 1 tbspon treacle. Almond, vanilla and lemon essences.
Beat butter and sugar, add yolks of eggs.Add milk, and soda mixed together, flour, fruit, spices and drop of essence each.Last, add stiff beaten egg whites. Bake 350 degrees for 10 min then 320 degrees for two hours.
Don't ask me to convert the measurements - LOL, it takes me ages and I have to double check everything! I can't begin to imagine what this weighs!!Please let me know if anyone tries it. The last note say to sprinkle it with sherry. It doesn't say how much or when - but knowing my grand mother.. often!
