Does anyone know where i can buy this fruit ?
I really want too taste some.

samsnan, Jun 20, 2:15pm
I could be wrong but I dont think you would get it in nz. Have only seen them in Singapore and they stink. Not allowed on public transport over there cause of the smell.

shortkiwiboy, Jun 20, 2:35pm
I, m pretty sure there are places in nz that sell them. I would love too eat some. I watched a few youtube videos about them and they must really smell putrid but they must really taste good. I'm curious and need one.

mistrycelebrity, Jun 20, 2:41pm
you can get them in thailand too but i didn't try them, them were signs in the hotels everywhere banning it!

hails69, Jun 20, 2:42pm
Yuck yuck yuck! Used to live in Thailand and couldn't stomach them. Tasted like eating petrol, or something just as bad. GL finding one.

accroul, Jun 20, 2:46pm
I've seen a few asian food stores that have some in their fridges or freezers. I loathe the things.

blands70, Jun 20, 2:47pm
Try a Thai shop, that would be your best bet in NZ I think. Yum.

clare_mel, Jun 20, 3:33pm
When we were in Singapore we tried them. One out of four of us liked the taste. The rest hated it!
I had it described to me as burnt kumara with a hint of charcoal onions! ! !
There are big signs up saying you can't take them on public transport and in many shops. You can usually smell the fruit in the markets before you see them.
They make a chocolate eclair type thing with durian flavoured cream inside which is slighlty milder in flavour.

Hideous things... imagine the taste of cheesy toe jam and that's it...

shortkiwiboy, Jun 20, 5:27pm
I thought it was just the smell that was bad and the taste was sweet, i wish i could get one . . .

ferita, Jun 20, 5:39pm
You can get it frozen at asian food shops.
I have had it in NZ before so you can get it here.

Be warned it will stink your house out but it tastes devine LOL.

katalin2, Jun 20, 5:42pm
yum yum yum- have had it Thailand - definitely acquired taste. Have also seen it frozen in Asian shops in NZ. Also had it as an ice cream somewhere overseas- delicious!

nala2, Jun 20, 5:43pm
People who like them say "Smell like hell, taste like heaven" also considered an aphrodisiac. They are available in most Asian supermarkets, whole in the freezer or canned.

Not sure where you can buy it though, but during the last Chinese New Year celebration in Victoria Park, Auckland. . I saw a stall selling fresh durian.

I think it was $20 for 200g? I was like. . fark no way Im paying that price

edit: Maybe you can check out your local chinese yumcha/dim sum restaurants. . they may have some durian puffs available. Not as good as the real thing, but gives you a taste of what its like

kirinesha, Jun 20, 7:00pm
I had some in Malaysia and loved it. Durian icecream is also lovely! And weirdly, cats love durian.

biker_69, Jun 20, 7:55pm
We've eaten 2 in the last week. Fresh 'n' Save opposite BP Kerrs Road had them for $14. 99/kg (fresh - not frozen - only two left after we took our 2nd one yesterday). You can get them frozen pretty easily but they're not as nice.

amarni1, Jun 21, 6:40am
no, they don't taste any better than they smell. gaging material

shortkiwiboy, Jun 21, 3:43pm
As i am from Inverrgill and can't buy 1 down here and I can't buy 1 online I am hoping that someone out there can buy 1 and put it up for auction. Would be just great. . .

lilyfield, Jun 21, 4:53pm
that and oysters are the only thing I never managed to swallow

biker_69, Jun 21, 7:19pm
I would... but that would require me to credit my TM account under the misnomer of becoming 'authenticated' and I have no desire to do that.

levintofu, Jun 22, 7:31am
lol i love really close to that place he mentions in the blog... it sure smells funny but i always thought that was the fishmongers there :P

i'll pop down later and see if i can spot any duran left (i've seen them in the freezers but never fresh) and list some for you if you want

daleaway, Jun 22, 1:52pm
The usual description of their taste is "like eating icecream in a public toilet... "

levintofu, Jun 22, 3:05pm
i went to both the fruit and veg shop and the tofu shop in that drive though mall place in the blog and no fresh Duran but if you want frozen you can have that... . its $15 for what looks like about 300g(? )

shortkiwiboy, Jun 22, 3:36pm
Hey thanks but I would really like a whole fresh 1 if anyone can help me out would be just great . . .
