Choko's are great for piccalilli, chow chow and other pickles too. they stay firm in the pickles. great for using for a range of ways.

Matamata is my area but not my place, its known for its extremes[I didnt until I moved here!].and yes the tips got chilled.and during the day in that orchard area the temps actually get to over 60o .temps been down to 5 at night.despite them saying 9 on TV.

I am thinking its all but over for mine. So very cold at night , I will go pick some tips and cook those tonight. who knows that may shock the vine into setting some fruit.

try them in salards they are yummy but i would never cook them they get slimmy

I just cooked up two tips to try. They did not go slimy they almost disappeared. they shrunk down to less than half. I have now decided not to pick any more. They were tasteless as well.

i love chokos! my mum makes a beautiful pickle which i do not like to share lol and the lady up the road uses it in slices and cakes. i just steam them yum!

I have noted a change in the buds today they are growing out on a stem.

good luck but think we might have run out of time this season, I will cover them up extra well for the winter and hope for second year crop

yes, I think you are right. This is my plants second year, I thought it would be fine. I may look into how I can get it started earlier next year.

I have been told to feed the plant, pot ash.
