I'd like to see "Kath & Kim's"Kath & Kel hosting one - just imagine Kim dining at the table and Sharon hovering in the kitchen in the backgound.

I wouldn't compete on telly either, but a private one would be good.Kath and Kim so crazy, and that Miranda would be a hoot.Used to do mystery dinner parties when no-one knew who their 4 dinner guests were going to be, they were fun. There were a few rules eg, it didn't matter if the host served up a pie and baked beans, it was more about the fun of it.Most hosts turned out great food though, but I know one or two did the pie thing, just for a laugh

Paul Henry would be perfect

Yes I love watching that show probably because of his narration. I can't imagine any NZ version having anything near as good, probably some has been like that presenter who did the kids show with the big ears they trot out occasionally - that would really kill it

I agree with you pita. Paul Henry would be a crack up! Might get a bit too personal though! Karlymouse, sorry I don't know who you mean! Big ears!

Oh, ok. I do like the British one though. A bit like Masterchef, it just is not the same when it is done here.
mwood,

yes it's a particular British genre - a bit like Maori humour - I couldn't imagine UK trying to replicate that.

Arghh. Im with you on that.

Ha! I too love a bit of Come Dine With Me. I remember reading in a mag recently (either Mindfood or Australian Womens Weekly) about a woman who had battled depression and she said something along the lines of "somethings you just need to spend a day in pjs, eat cake and watch episodes of Come Dine With Me" haha
And I have to admit sometimes when I make something really delicious for dinner or whatever I say to my man, "this would be my Come Dine With Me main (or starter etc)"

I watch it sometimes.Always annoys me when they serve scallops as they only use the white bit. When we have scallops we eat all of it.
clevercloggs,
Feb 1, 7:36am
Yeah, what's with that! What a waste, they throw away the best part.
kuaka,
Feb 1, 8:57am
I don't know but whenever I'm back there and go out for a meal I normally have scampi (which I have yet to see here, either for sale or on a restaurant menu) but if I ordered scallops and only got the white bit I think I would be complaining to the chef and asking where's the rest of it.

I still don't understand the poking around other peoples homes bit though.A bit creepy.I like to see what the menus are and what they have chosen. It is apparently very successful and now in many countries.Would be a cheap show to make too.
kuaka,

I agree. If I had friends or guests around for dinner I wouldn't expect them to go nosing around in my bedroom or craft room, in fact I'd be horrified if they did. It's so rude and I wouldn't dream of doing it if I were visiting someone else.

Well the show is catering to voyeurs who are more interested in the interaction of the personalities than the food - albeit in a foody environment - so snooping in the closets ( *I wish*) is just a natural extension of this - IMHO.
kuaka,
Feb 1, 2:08pm
True, and it always seems to be the ones that have something a little bit weird in the closet, that always get checked out by the guests - I guess it's all pre-arranged and okayed, I wouldn't want to be part of it otherwise.

Kermadec resturant in aucklands Viaduct used to do NZ scampi, something to do with the fishing company that had the only NZ licence being tied up with the resturant owner certainly they were really nice though expensive.
