Hi all, I know this is going to be a disappointment to some of you, but after a lot of thought I've decided to not renew the registration of trademecooks, and when it runs out in I think July, it will be closed down. I haven't been able to do any upkeep on it for several months and financially its sadly just not worth the yearly charges if I'm not going to keep it up to date. I have disabled registration, theres little point in anyone joining now, and you've never had to join to read the recipes anyway, to those that do use the site I'm sorry its going to go, all I can suggest is to start saving recipes you like, unless anyone else wants to take over hosting/paying for the website. Sorry all :(

Thanks for your all your hard work. It's really been appreciated.

Thats so sad Fetish, can I make a suggestion?

I would be very happy to purchase a portion of TradeMe Cooks
registration if you were to put it up for auction. I am not sure how much it costs but if say $100, you could make 11 x Auctions of $10 (to cover your commission as well). Maybe selling a pencil, with a 10% share at the same time.

Thanks for all your work to date making such a valued resource, I think you would be amazed at how many of us use that amazing site.

Anyway I would love to be a "Co owner"

Thanks and Take Care
JB

very sad fetish. I too have appreciated all your hard work.

Sounds like a very good idea from toadfish as well.

griffo4, Feb 2, 7:45am
fetish so sorry to hear that news but understand fully. You put so much work into that site and l love it like many others do and so many visit that site daily.
All the best and thank you

kirinesha, Feb 2, 7:58am
Fetish, you have contributed so much to us all - thank you. A passing of an era I suspect... .

fisher, Feb 2, 8:49am
Fetish. . I know how much work and time is involved keeping up a site like that but with the advent of the new system on Trade me search, (1 year) the ability to now retrieve a posted recipe is made far easier wherein previously, they "fell off" within a week unless a further post was made. . Folks just need to learn how to use the new search facility which alleviates them trolling through many threads as we once had to do. . Recipes should be printed out and a personal favourites recipe cookbook made... Thanks also from me as I have had to go to "cooks" to get a recipe or two I had forgotten the ingredients for. .

Thank you fetish, I too always look up trademecooks site often. It will be sad to see it go. Your time devoted to this site is much appreciated. :o)

I would also like to thank you for all your hard work, you have helped many people.
Good idea toadfish.

avana7, Feb 2, 12:26pm
so sad only just found it a couple of weeks ago and have been using it heaps. I can understand why though Fetish.

justme27, Feb 2, 2:24pm
Thanks so much for all your hard work and input into this site Fetish, I have used quite a few of the recipes there. Perhaps somebody clever could put the recipes which are in there into a booklet for each topic and sell these through TradeMe (similar to the crockpot one) to help offset some of your costs as well as keeping these recipes available to those who still want them? I would most definitely be a buyer for these :)

kiwinewt, Feb 2, 2:31pm
Hi Fetish.
My wife loves the website and I have my own web server.
Email me at my TM username @ the gmail place and I will sort you something out to keep the website going.
kiwinewt.

kiwinewt, Feb 2, 2:33pm
Forgot to mention - I'ma web developer and have a few clients on the web server, so adding this site to it wont be too much of a hit.

Eden - I wanted to say thanks so muchfor your effort and time that you've put into the TradeMeCooks site - I've found it sohandy over the while and often refer to the site for recipes... I didn't realise there was a cost involved ~ So thank you so much. I've enjoyed using it and you did a fantastic job

fetish - are you willing to get some people on board to help with the money side of things - or are you just dis-enchanted with the whole idea and want to drop it?

mindi1, Feb 2, 4:25pm
I would definitely wish to buy the recipes from the site ~ as one big collection or by topic.

davidt4, Feb 2, 4:39pm
Oh Eden, what a shame. It must be hard to generate enough traffic to appeal to advertisers, but that was a great thing you did. I hope my difficulties with loading curries in Mac script wasn't the last straw! !

Many thanks for all your patient work.

bucjo, Feb 2, 6:05pm
thanks for trademecooks while it lasted! i've enjoyed it

I also would like to express the same sentiments as above. I refer to trade me cooks a lot, 2nd to the recipe thread & have learn't so much & have made some very good meals & baked lots from the site, very much appreciate the work you put in, also did not realize there was a cost attached.
can anything be done to share that cost ?

fetish, Feb 3, 6:17am
Wow, what a lot of replies, and thank you to you all for your kind words and understanding ! To cover a few things, I won't sell any of the recipes there, in any way as somewere given freely from family recipes, and some given from copyrighted sources, so besides it just being 'wrong' to me anyway to profit from them, in some cases it would be illegal to do so. As for contributing towards the site I've had an email from someone else who was asking the same thing, I did at first say I was happy to let someone else take over, but I wanted no part of it in the future, but after some thought I would be happy to do the 'behind the scenes' admin stuff, if noone else knew how to do so, to help out, but have recipe updating done by whoever it worked out to be, even a group if that was the case. Kiwinewt thats a very generous offer, I would be more than happy to have you host it, assuming it could be hosted as it is where I am that would be wonderful, but before anything gets worked out perhaps it first needs to be sorted if anyone, or a group wish to step up and update the site or if they just want what is there, saved to your server ... ? I'll check back tomorrow for replies, got to go make a birthday pudding to take to work tonight ... oh and davidt4 no the mac script wasn't the breaking point at all ! Hope you all enjoy your day :)

Hi all, did not want to post anything until one heard from Fetish-Eden privately.

As one will note with her latest posting, I asked her the ins'n'outs re continuing the "trademecooks".

Fetish has answered partially in her posting of perhaps forming a group perhaps with someone taking over as administrator with the help of Fetish whom reading the above posting will give assistance in this area.

Also, cost factor involved is about $112 a year plus (I'm not too sure in this area yet but) downloading the software (believe this is free) by someone and to be the administrator.
My personal thought now is if we want this site to continue, we would possibly need a group, possibly be the moderators willing to share this cost suggesting say maybe between 4 to say 8 possibly more whom would be the working party group plus the newly elective administrator (sorry cannot be me, getting too old and hands are playing up on me) with honourium being given to Fetish and allowing some to continue as previous for e. g. davidt4 with her Asian recipes, cookessentials with hints on kitchenware and any other thoughts in this area may need to be expressed further.

So folks, and noting kiwinewt thoughts, your suggestions please, do you want this continued is the first question that we all need to answer firstly then to look at it after that.

Hopes this helps everyone.

Cheers.

justme27, Feb 3, 7:54am
If there is an opportunity for us to chip in towards the costs involved, then I would be only too happy to do so seeing as these recipes are (understandably) unable to be sold.
