If you are replacing see if you can get a gas hob its the best way to cook by a country mile and similar priced to elictric ring type. You can run off a 9kg bottle (mine does lasts about 3 months). Makes wok cooking a whole new ball game faster tastier and more authentic.
As it does tend to cook more evenly on a gas hob I've been told.
I wonder if I still have to use my metal ring to stop the wok from moving around then!

You won't need a wok ring for a gas hob.
I've just started to look into gas hobs which run on bottled LPG, as we're moving to an area with no reticulated gas.Genesis Energy offers a service whereby they supply two 9 kg LPG bottles (with a switching valve), and they top up the gas regularly.I haven't looked into the cost yet but it sounds like the ideal solution.
And now that we've broadened this topic into gas hobs, does anyone have advice about the best gas hob to get!I'm leaning towards Bosch.
Thanks for that advice Pam.The Lacanche looks amazing! If only I had enough space.

Hmm, I have a glass top oven, when we bought the place 2 elements weren't working and the repair guy swapped them out, under the glass it's not much different you know. Mine works fine on all heats, those that say its hot or low have a fault.

I reckon I ruined my ceramic hob using hot pans. It got rings baked into it that I couldn't remove even when carefully using ceramic cleaner. I think I'll avoid such a surface again.

I like the 'build your cooker' feature.customising the cooker for the individual cook.
