I haven't used it before but thought I may give it a go - what are your recommendations - like - should the preserve be cold or hot or warm?

The preserve should be warm/hot. Below is a link to a site which youmay find very useful. It has some good tips and tricks. National candles make preserving was in a box of six plugs.
