Anyone have a tried and tested recipe - I do not want it to be too strong - just light and refreshing.Don't want everyone asleep before Christmas Dinner.

Hi My boyfriend is from south america and he made 30 litres of it last sat night for a party and it when down a treat...
Vodka (amount you want) cask of red wine Lift soft drink fruit juice (The Fresh up nectarine is nice) lots of chopped up oranges chopped strawberries because its xmas. can of fruit salad extra plain sugar if it needs sweetening.
Sorry dont have exact measurements, he just does a little bit of this a little bit of that until it tastes good. The whole 30 litres disapeared within 3 hours its too easy to drink! Yum

Thanks be21 - LOL 30 litres, they will only be 8 of us - no need to bother about food!
I think I will experiment and have a tasting session!

haha yeah when i say 30 litres he used 2 bottles of vodka, 4 casks of wine1kg of sugar etc so he definately made it in bulk and almost $200 later, but the ingredients above is what he makes it with. So just keep adding to it until its right.

My most common Sangria is ;
1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup boiling water 1/4 cup lemon juice 1/4 cup Contrieu 1 bottle Merlot 2 trays of ice plus more if wish 1 Lemon half cut lengthwise then into normal cross slices.
Dissolve sugar in water then add juice and Contrieu and mix well.
In a good size jug add the mixture then Merlot, ice and lemon slices.
Add more ice if wish to taste.
One should have plenty of ice if doing more than one jug though, perhaps one of those bags from a service station.
Cheers.

yes definately lots of ice, we get ours from ther service station, keeps it cold and waters it down a bit if its a bit too strong or sweet.

Yes I definitely agree about the ice - especially if it is going to be 31 degrees again here!
How long before should I make it do you think?

We make ours either the night before or a few hours before, its ok if its room temp. This also gives the fruit time to soak up the flavours and just give it a stir and add the ice when your ready to drink.
