I have gone a little overboard on the pickle and jam making this year and even after giving loads away for xmas pressies I have loads left.
Strawberry and Vanilla jam is my new best friend and man my house smells DEVINE!

I do that, and then keep going back to the cupboard to look at it all.

Good to hear geldof cause I also keep going back to the cupboard (in the garage) just to have another look. God help anyone who messes around with my cupboard. So I am not crazy after all. My inside cupboard has -Marmalade,Quince Jelly,Loquat Jelly,Strawberry, Strawberry and Rhubarb,Fig and Ginger,Apricot,Plum,Blueberry and Lemon Honey. Garage has surplus Marmalade,Plum Sauce,Tomato Sauce,Piccallilli,Cucumber Relish. I will probably only make more Plum Sauce this year as still have plenty of everything to last another year.

sounds familiar. lol. I am all done. I don't do it any more. I bottle to replace what we use these days. I do make vinegar, and really enjoy using what I make. I make a lot of plum sauce, as I can get all the fruit I need for nothing, and we use heaps. I made a very nice lot of worcestershire sauce last year and as that improves as it ages I intend to make 3 more lots this year. I would say to those that do like to make a lot of pickles, to have a go at making vinegar. It is an expense I don't think about now. $15.00 for malt = 23 litres of malt vinegar. Bin Inn malt may even be cheaper. 1.5 kg of malt.

yes i have an inside and outside cupboard. made so much last, giving some away for xmas too. just love making pickles. i made a cucumber sliced pickle type thing, that you just made a vinegar/sugar syrup and put the sliced cucumbers in jar, and poured over. they are very soft, think it could have been the cucumbers being old, which brings me to ask, has anyone found this seasons cucumbers tasteless and not crunchy...????
