Maybe wrong board , but help , please, on how to get rid of the scale on my glass shower door. I've used Bam, Desolv-it and some other so-called cleaner. Maybe the cleaning has been left for too long ?? I dunno , but any suggestions would be appreciated !! Thx, Mike, Paeroa

Probably should be in DIY and gardening.

If you use the search function on the left of this board, type in shower, all topics, anytime....heaps and heaps of threads will come up on the subject.

Pain in the butt, but there are answers

CLR from Mitre 10.

I did mine just yesterday! :) CERACLEN non abrasive Ceramic Cooktop Cleaner. Works great! I apply it with a sponge in a firm, circular motion, ( as you would apply car polish ). I've been using it for years and it leaves the shower door spotlessly clean. After the treatment, the water runs down the glass in a clear sheet. Ceraclen is available in supermarkets and Mitre10.

Pink cleaner Chemco - then just squidgee the water off after use, Chemco every 3 - 4 weeks and a polish with car polish every 2 - 3 months.

No more marks and very easy.

I have tried pretty much everything (including the C-thru product) and nothing has worked. The problem with our shower door is it is now inside the glass and I think is what they term "glass cancer".I've given up trying to clean it after spending too many hours and dollars on it.

I used white vinegar & water with a steelo pad. Sprayed it on and left it for several minutes. Took a bit of rubbing, but did come clean. Can use all vinegar is marks really bad

use bodywash over soap & you will have less / to nil scum

lisa2211, Oct 25, 4:29pm
I 2ND THIS its wonderful stuff

elliehen, Oct 25, 4:32pm
Agree!Ban soap.Bodywash is like a detergent and doesn't permit grease buildup.

Product 'Shower Power' from the supermarket seems to move residual scale - nicer word than 'scum', isn't it ;)

read-a-holic .... get newspaper, wet it with water and dip it in the ash from your fire... it cleans the glass from fireplaces fantastically... sounds impossible but its awesome!!

nfh1, Oct 25, 5:53pm
Have you tried Chemco?

52many, Oct 25, 6:27pm
read-a-holic, have you tried a bunched up wet paper towel dipped in the ash on your fire door? Works brilliantly on our fire door. Actually, maybe if you tried it on the shower door? You never no!

Ive tried newspaper with a wee bit of spit on it which does work but not as well as it used to a few years back, some old guy told us that when we bought the woodburner in our last house, will try the ash though

ambr, Oct 26, 7:37am
You need more water than spit too... not wringing wet but definitely wet.... then dipped in ash... voila!

It removes the toughest black creosote in seconds!I have a sparkling glass fire door all winter and have to suppress the urge near other people's fireboxes to leap up and scrub theirs too ;)

Get over that initial feeling that you're using a harsh abrasive on glass. The ash will feel scratchy as you scrub, but doesn't leave anything behind except sparkling glass.I use a wet paper towel.

Yep - tried Chemco. The scum is inside the glass so nothing can be done - other than buying a new door!

I was told my old glass door was etched by the lime scale and caused by water droplets sitting on the glass; therefore nothing was ever going to bring it up clear again. Maybe some of these hard to clean doors are the same?

From the first use of my new shower, I have banned soap and also dry the walls and door after every use. Into its fourth year and it still looks as good as new.

I am sure this is what has happened to ours hence I am not throwing any more money or time at it.I mean I do clean the door but I don't try to get the scale off.Eventually when we re-do the bathroom we will get a new shower and look after the new door (i.e. no soap and cleaning it after every shower).

I used to use Chemco, until some splashed into my eye (don't ask how I managed to do that!!) and ended up having to have the eye "resurfaced" ....something involving scraping the eye with a fine needle, not fun!

nfh1, Oct 28, 7:50am
Gosh you were unlucky - I suppose if it clears the shower it would definitely be horrible to get in your eye.

Can you still buy Chemco i have tried but can't find it in the shops??
