I have just googled it and it is Spanish for Milk Caramel which apparently is made by heating condensed milk. Google it and see what you think.

Found out its delicious and you make it by boiling a can for a few hours - sounds like my kind of cooking!

You can buy it already made in the can. Just go to the condensed milk stand in your local supermarket and there it will be, already caramelised for you. No need to boil and risk having the whole can blow up in your face.

You can open a can of condensed milk and place the contents in a microwave proof bowl - heat for 1 minute on high, stir, another minute... stir - repeat till only just beginning to go a lightish brown as it will continue cooking.. use as you wish..

Thanks heaps guys! Also read you can punch a couple of holes in the lid before boiling it - just don't fully immerse it, which stops that risk of blowing up, and you can see how caramelised it is during cooking - bonus!

Ah. I didn't know that. Interesting. I should have realised because IMO no processed food products taste as good as the stuff you make yourself.

That's interesting #6. Do you cover the bowl in the microwave? And approximately how long does it take to brown?

Sound like some people not have a idea about the real Dulce de leche.
You can make something with a similar favour from condensed milk but nothing like the real thing, if you using condensed milk take it out of the tin, the tin are painted inside, be smart people.
The recipe is easy just milk sugar and heat and alot of patient, i remember been at the farm of my relatives over the summer when i was a child and help to make dulce de leche stir the milk and the sugar over the stove it use to take a long time but the reward was sweet.
