I love Petone - always spend a fortune there, so many shops and cafes all in close proximity.

On Trays in Petone, don't visit Welly without On Trays - free real coffee and food from around the world.Ifyou want Rochefort cheese from Rochefort it's there, if you want biltong it's there and if you want free real coffee when you walk in the door it's there. They have a website too, just Google (and will deliver!) Also there are two really good Indian food shops in Petone, one on a corner of Jackson St - good quality rice and urad flour from this shop.Cultured in Petone for NZ Artisan cheeses - if your friend checks the website they may be running courses in cheese making when they are in Welly. The Dutch Shop for all things Dutch.Bretzle Mania also on Jackson St for lovely bread.Davis Trading for all sorts of stuff she may want to buy from Asia.

A MUST is La Bella Italia in Petone, we go there any time we are down that way and Antonio ( the owner) is lovely. The have just about everything Italian from salumeria ( deli) to pantry staples such as olives, limoncello, crostini, nougats, capers, condiments, jams etc. You can also eat there and the food is lovely.

Farmers Markets - Hill Street, Thorndon on a Saturday morning and Chaffers (inside) on a Sunday morning. Try the new cheesecake shop too (Yummy Mummys Cheesecakes?) in the James Cook Arcade on Lambton Quay.

Mediterranean Food Warehouse in Newtown. Not only is the store awesome but the pizza in the cafe is magnificent.

It's probably not too different from La Bella Italia, but I've never been there. Went to MFW all the time when I lived in Newtown though!

Hmmm, I don't know if Butlers is the place you are after? Ciocco Chocolaterie and Espresso Bar at 11 Tory Street (04 382 8907) do the most amazing hot chocolates - you pick the chocolate flavour you want (e.g. Plain, chilli or orange) and they put a lump in a cup with hot milk.... yumm. (They also see Schoc chocolates) I have also heard the Scopa on the corner of Cuba St and Ghuznee st do amazing hot chocolate with real chocolate too.

When I hit Wellington, I always make a trip to Kaffee Eis for some of their delicious gelato.

Ontrays is lovely - my credit card just loves that store, and their coffee is excellent.

Ohhh Butlers...get a coffee and choose a free choccy to have on the side. I worked my way through almost all of them and had about five favourites.
