moreorless, Sep 15, 10:12am
Hi all, I am looking for a set of measuring cups for USA measurements, anyone have any to sell or know where to buy.
Failing that anyone a google pro and can pull up a conversion chart USA v NZ, many thanks in advance, have a great USA cookbook and the conversions are time consuming :-).

Well I don't have special measuring cups or spoons.I purchased mine here in NZ.I use mostly American recipes as I am from the USA and have never had a problem with any conversion. The most I have to stop and think about is the using metric instead of imperial but most recipes Ihave found in USA/NZ use the same 1 cup, 1 teaspoon etc measuring.

Agree with michelle.Just use normal measuring items for dry goods.

The only measurement that differs is in liquids.

Imperial (UK) 20 fluid ounces = 1 pint = 0.568 litre
USA 16 fluid ounces = 1 pint = 0.473 litre ( l or L )

I brought Fire King/Anchor Hocking glass measuring jugs from the US [think these are easily available from Briscoes etc].

There is a shop in Mt Wellington/St John's area that sells all things American. Can't remember name, will post if I can...

Hi all, thanks very much, you all gave me valued info and David the chart is great.
Thanks Michelle, that's good to know, thankyou.
Coralsnake, that info will come in handy, thanks
Natalie I did know about the shop - it's really great.I picked up some measuring spoons from there as I was told USA differs slightly.

The cook book I had bought hence my question was Pioneer Woman Cooks, she also has a cooking blog and it is fabulous to read.

Thanks again.

The Pioneer Womans site is fab. One of the girls from the distributor we buy from in the States belongs to the site and often snds me recipes.

Cookessentials, I read her blog so often, love it, I see her receipe site is free to join, so you could join it easily.
Re my question on the measuring spoons, cups, have you done much USA cooking and how did you find the conversion, reason I ask is I just bought the spoons because I was told they are different sizing to ours and that is why I was after the cups. I see they have her cook book on here for sale.Isn't she a hoot, and do read high heels to tractor wheels on her site if you haven't, that is if you enjoy a good romance, she is a very good writer. Ok so what isnt she good at :-) nice chattin. Let me know re the cooking. Thanks
