Put a chopped lemon and some ice cubes in - should freshen it up.

Please do not put your hand down into it again - gives me the shakes!

I agree lemon and ice... omg it turned my stomach thinking you had put your had down it.

Having had my hand down a waste master... its not scary... or sharp believe it or not, just blunt grinding bits of metal. Be careful about leaving lemon in it though. My mother always told me to grind it half up and leave it their to freshen... Then when she got her waste disposal serviced a few months ago and told the technician what she did, he said "Who told you to do that? - the man in the shop who wants you to buy another one, sure fire way to make it rust out faster"

I have been doing it... on my mothers advice... for years!

PS, I think its more likely to be the pipes underneath than the machine... maybe draino or something.

what happens if it switches on though - gives me the shivers thinking of a hand in the waste disposal!

This happened to me... I see you used disinfectant with no avail so try this... fill up the jug boil water... in the meantime whilst waiting for water to boil throw at least a cup of vinegar (white) and 2 tablespoons of baking soda into the wastemaster... let it sit (soda first, then vinegar) when water is boiled throw that on top and leave it for a bit (5mins), then switch the bugger back on with running hot water. If that doesn't do it then I'll quit my job! (jokes! )

try spraying it with some watered down h202 (hydrogen peroxide)

The motor unit underneath will have stringy stuff wrapped around the shaft and blades that has collected stuff which is rotting the lower section comes off just disconnect the pipe and the rest just untwists then clean the shaft it will solve the problem.

If that sounds too hard then get a plumber its not hard but it is disgusting.

Not sure of the process beaker is describing but if you have to get some part that has water and smelly stuff in it, remember not to throw it down your sink. My friend did that and I have been giggling about it for years now. Tickles my funny bone just thinking about it. Have a bucket ready just in case.

You will probably find the smell is actually coming from the rubber seal thingy. Take it out of the plug hole & give a really good scrub with a toothbrush & white vinegar. Amazing. Put some gloves on as if it hasn't been cleaned for a while it will be disgusting.
