Just to be clear, are you asking about a flour made from the oat grains or are you asking about a type of porridge oats, more commonly referred to as "rolled oats"?

Thanks I am after the porridge variety

I think in NZ it is usually calls it rolled oats but wait for a bit. There maybe someone who is just itching to correct me on this. Then you will have certainty.

Rolled oats are one type of oatmeal. Oats can be ground, steel cut or rolled. They can be also processed to be fine medium or coarse oatmeal. I really miss the finer creamoata oatmeal. Used to come from Gore and was so yummy.

Just put your rolled oats in liquidizer and you have oatmeal or creamota.

I've seen recipes calling for oat fibre, anyone know what this is? It is supposed to have almost no carbs in it.

That would probably be oatbran

Hi, I'm from Gore, and since i also miss creamota, i decided to make my own. I buy Homebrand Rolled Oats, put it in the Food processor and grind till fine. It's just like creamota.

I saw the fine oatmeal you have described in Binn Inn today, right beside the oatbran. And yes, it looks like rolled oats that have been finely ground.

Thanks Jenny791. I have not had a food processor for quite some time but have just purchased one so my rolled oats are going to get processed.

My grandmother was from Gore, and my husband's grandfather worked at Creamota there. We both remember eating it as kids, with cream and chocolate chips, or golden syrup. Yum! Those were the days when most NZers ate basically everything in moderation and were healthily, physically active; not sitting round measuring and analysing their diets, cholesterol, lipids etc all the time. There is a case for balance- and for having a life!
