I am making gluten free chocolate chip cookies and the recipe calls for the above ingredient. I couldn't get this so I used Brown Rice Malt Syrup which works fine, but is not exactly on the cheaper side of things. Any ideas what else I could use? I thought probably golden syrup, but just wanted some input before I tried that. Thank you.

yep, golden syrup would do the same thing. Those expensive syrups are marketed as being healthier than sugar, but they are in fact just sugar. Save your money.

Thank you, I suspected after reading stuff online that might be the case.

Normally I wouldn't be promoting sugar but if it came to a choice between sugar and agave syrup, sugar wins hands down. Sugar is 50/50 Glucose/Fructose. Agave is nearly all fructose. Fructose is not metabolised by insulin. It has to be processed through the liver which turns it into triglycerides. Triglycerides are undesirable and more unhealthy than the normal fat that the body turns excess glucose into. It has been hypothesised that the current diabetes epidemic is caused by the huge increase in fructose consumption. No point adding more into the diet.

Suggest you find a different recipe for GF biscuits that uses everyday ingredients (with GF flour). I often just replace normal flour with GF flour and things work out well. I prefer to do this with 'stronger tasting' recipes as I find I can taste GF flour and things like cocoa mask the taste.
A friend you is a nutritionist seconds the above regarding argave syrup - it has no benefits over sugar but costs 10x more.
