Can anyone help with this?

I am making a recipe for tonight but am puzzled by what it says. Making Chickpea and spinach curry. On one line of the book, it says, 2 tablespoons of ginger, Garlic and shallots stir fry mix. Does this mean 2 tablespoons of Ginger then. Garic and shallots frozen stir fry mix? I have looked in Countdown but can't find anything like this? All help greatly appreciated.

I think it means stir fry the mix of ginger, garlic and shallots, 2T of each seems a lot for each though, well at least the garlic and ginger, the shallots 2T sounds okay, so I'm not sure on the interpretation there

Thanks for that. That's what I thought as well. It is out of Alison and Simon Holst vegetarian book. There is a comma after the Ginger so made me wonder about the rest of it.

Think I will go with 2 tablespoons of Ginger as it states then 2T of shallots and less Garlic. Hope it works that way.

It has been my experience that fresh ginger and garlic cook/saute at roughly the same speed - fast. It doesn't take long before they burn. I would prepare them all (I presume the recipe calls for the 3 ingredients to be finely chopped and cook them all at the same time. If you really want to do it in steps then do the shallots first then add the ginger and garlic.

In my world there is no such thing as too much fresh ginger. I tend to be very heavy handed with it when cooking just for us and more conservative when cooking for others.

I agree with everything Buzzy110 said!

To me it reads that one could buy a jar or satchet of Ginger, garlic and Shallot as a mixture and the recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of this mixture.

The actual ration of each item is undisclosed but the list of items should be on its label.

Perhaps there is a store that can be obtained from.

Cheers

My version of this recipe from Alison holst has tablesp ginger, 2 cloves garlic crushed, diced onion. Odd, seems there is 2 versions out there.

catz21, I have checked my copy of Alison's book (The Very Easy Vegetarian Kitchen) and at the front (bottom of on page 7) there is a line-up of John West brand products in jars, one of which is "Ginger, Garlic & Shallots Asian Stir-Fry Mix" - it is obviously that product that was used for the recipe you're making. I also checked Countdown on-line and like yourself, I could not find the product there. Have also Googled and cannot find any mention of the product there either - a now discontinued line? :-))

fifie, I have noticed on a number of occasions that there are 2 or more different versions for some of Alison's recipes - usually with only slight variations in quantities of some ingredients.
On this occasion when the book that I have was produced (with the recipe that OP is using), I believe that John West were most likely sponsoring the production. :-))

Hi All. Have just tuned in again to this post of mine. the name of the recipe book that I have is: Very Easy Vegetarian Cookbook.

Just checked the book. On page 6 and 7 it has the products at the bottom of page 7. Page 6 has useful foods to keep in a cupboard or pantry etc. the heading is. The very easy vegetarian kitchen! Amazing what you

find when you turn a few pages eh? Thank you all so much and a special thanks to 245sam for showing me the correct page to look. I guess that mix isn't available anymore as it didn't show up in the Supermarket List when I googled. I will keep checking.
