Could you lovely people please advise me on what would be the best, home coffee machine , I could buy for under $1000 for making capps, lattes etc I know how to make such drinks from my work but am not a pro. Thanks

Well, from persoanl experience I would not recommend Sunbeam. Breville and De Longhi are both good machines as are Krups.
We have a totally automatic Jura Impressa Z5 now which we find just fantastic - it grinds the beans for each cup it makes, so basically just the press of a button. There are various sites that give consumer comments on various machines too which are always useful to check out.

Best one I had for that sort of money was the Rancilio Silvia. If you read up on overseas reviews, you'll find it is highly rated. It's a bit outside your budget (around $1250) but it's the closest machine you'll get to providing quality coffee. They do come up on here from time to time, so second hand might be an option?

I guess it depends on how much you enjoy your coffee. I started with a Krups and went from there, always trying to get to cafe-like quality. I can tell you the cheaper machines, for me, just don't cut it. Which is not to say others won't enjoy the quality of coffee that those machines produce. I liken it to wine - not everyone likes the $10 bottles of plonk.

Depends on how long it will actually last at the end of the day

Pop into your library and check out Consumer mag - all have them in the reference dept, tested recently. Good luck! Oh, they're all tested grinders - well worth a look.

We have a Saeco - a little over the $1000 mark, but totally worth it.

We don't have an expensive one, it's just a Breville, but what made the REAL difference was a friend of ours who runs a Mr Coffee outfit giving my husband some advise and showing him how to get the most out of it.

I bought a second hand one (Breville) from Sallies for an incredible amount of $4 a few years back and I just use that for frothing as the actual coffee making part is terrible. I use an espresso pot for making the coffee. I grind the beans. I like the easiness of going into a shop to buy a flat white but its not always memorable and my way is great and also cheaper which I love but more time consuming. Yay for weekends off.

Cant recommend the ones I like because they are $3300 - $3500... I have a isomatic but would like a rocket even though they look the same the water flows through the machines differently but mine has the E61 head and thats supposed to be important. Makes beautiful coffee

I have the Isomac Tea (! ) which has made me fantastic coffee for the past 4-odd years. Hopefully my final upgrade (went from the above mentioned Silvia). My Rocky grinder isn't faring so well and needs manual assistance.

We have a krups, fully automatic, does the beans. Makes yummy coffee. Hubby and I have both done coffee courses and I know that really helped us. It was $1, 000 2 yrs ago. Before that we had a cheaper and that was just a waste of time. I also think the brand of coffee you use helps. We are very prone to Alpress coffee.

Had a Krups for years and have upgraded to a Rocket, yummy coffee, but the know how to get the most out of your machine is important as well.

Ive just bought a syphon setup and am looking at a zassenhaus hand grinder - probably as close to the goat herder as I can get. .

Zassenhaus make excellent products including salt and pepper grinders.

We have brought a Sunbeam one about a month ago. Works well and makes nice coffee

I have an Innova steel duo. You can get the same thing on TM but under the Ascaso brand. It make great Capps, Lattes, espressos, etc. A lot depends on freshness of the grind and the experience of the maker.
