I want to make a corned beef silverside recipe and need 40 whole cloves yet I'm not sure where to get them from?
Are they expensive?

Get them in a packet from the supermarket alongside all the other spices. I don't imagine they will be expensive (I haven't bought any for ages). They are great stewed apples as well. The rest won't be wasted.

I've cooked corned beef in a very similar way to this from a New World catalogue a year or so ago, and only ever use about 5-6 cloves. I think any more would totally overpower the corned beef. My recipe also has a quartered onion.
It is really nice, and good for sandwiches the next day.

Wow, yeah 40 cloves sounds like a lot. I can't even stand the taste of a few on Christmas Hams. Ugh, but to each their own.
