American tablespoon measure.

Anyone know if our dessrtspoon spoon is the same measure as a US tablespoon, please!

I think the dessertspoon measure is bigger; an NZ tablespoon (15ml) would be a US tablespoon equivalent

Sorry I don't quite understand. If a NZ Tbsp is equivalent to a US Tbsp, how can the NZ dessert spoon be bigger!

Not all tablespoons are the same. The British tablespoon is 17.7 ml while the American tablespoon is 14.2 ml. The Australian tablespoon is 20 ml and in most Canadian recipes the tablespoon is 15 ml. (quote from web)I think NZtablespoon is the same as either the British or Canadian.I know it is smaller than the Australian one.

A NZ dessert spoon is larger than a table spoon on my set of measuring spoons. 25ml vs 15ml. So as the above poster wrote, American 14.2ml, so I would say NZ 15ml equivalent.

A dessertspoon is not a tablespoon in cooking/baking terminology.

Somewhat comforting to know there are 5mls in a teaspoon, 2 teaspoons (10ml) to a dessertspoon and 3 teaspoons (15ml) in a tablespoon.
One can cook armed only with one's coffee spoon.

But a coffee spoon is smaller than a teaspoon .

For NZ, English and American recipes I use 15ml as a tablespoon, for Australian recipes I use 20ml - I actually bought a separate set of measuring spoons when I was in Australia just so that I could do this (sadly).
