boito, I recall the type of slice you describe but I think it was called Napolean Slice. Here's a recipe from the former Trademe Cooks that I think may be what you're wanting.

"Napoleons creams
175 gms flaky pastry cut in half and roll out to fill tin.
Bake for 10 mins 215 F.
Filling • 3 des gelatine • 300 mls cream • 1 tb sugar • vanilla essence Soften gelatine in 2 tbs boiling water. Add half of milk and stir over a low heat until dissolved. Add remaining milk and sugar. Cool Add vanilla essence to cream and whip Combine the two mixtures Pour into a wet sponge roll tin ad leave to set Turn on to one of the pieces of pastry and top with the other. Ice and sprinkle with coconut Cut into slices

Neither of my Edmond's Books (both 1970's versions) have a recipe for Napolean or Neapolitan Slice/Squares but the following recipe is from my 1968 Aunt Daisy book.

NAPOLEON CREAM CAKE
One pint cream
2 tbsp each oficing sugarandcold water
2 dssp gelatine
1 egg white, stiffly beaten
1 tsp vanilla

Beat ½ the cream, not too stiffly; and add the beaten egg white; don't beat any more but just leave that aside.
Now take other ½ of the cream and place in saucepan with icing sugar and gelatine dissolved in cold water.Keep warm until gelatine is dissolved. If you boil this it will curdle. Now let this cool.
Beat and when it starts to get. Thick, add the other cream and whip.Turn out into a wetted tin 7” by 7” and when set place between two layers of puff pastry and ice with vanilla icing.:-))
