Mace is the outer shell of nutmeg. so maybe just buy whole nutmegs (greggs has them in a bottle) and use a tiny grater to grate the shell!Not sure if that's do-able!

Mace is actually the aril of the seed, a lacy red covering.A whole nutmeg has been trimmed of this.But if I didn't have any mace I would use a similar quantity of nutmeg.The flavours are very similar.
