interesting adult non-fizzy drinks

dabo, Apr 26, 10:43am
Hi - due to health reasons (starting a particular medication)I have to cease drinking! I do enjoy my evening glass of wine so am looking for suggestions as to interesting drinks to 'sip'A friend suggestedsoda water and cranberry juice which was nice so I wondered about other ideas. I'm not a huge fan of really fizzy or overly sweet. I don't need a 'mocktail' just something pleasant . . TIA

Fizzy Lemon drink
Ingredients:
2 litre screw top bottle. . 3 lemons. . 1 cup of sugar. . ! /4 tsp granulated yeast. .
Method:
Put sugar in large jug and add a bit of hot water from tapStir to dissolve sugar. . Squeeze lemons into jug. .
Pour mixture into bottle adding cold water until almost full about 5 cm from the top. . Add yeast - about 1/4 tsp.
Squeeze the bottle to expel air and put top on tight and tip bottle to mix. . Leave for few days in cool spot. . It is ready when the bottle feels quite hard and then placed in fridge to cool. .

Charlies Limeonade is really lovely - I mix it with either soda water or diet sprite (about 1/2+1/2) and find it very refreshing but not too sweet.

soda water with a twist of lemon is nice, not sweet but still slightly fizzy, it is schweps brand

amourette, Apr 26, 1:22pm
Yum I love charlies lemonade and limeade... ... . . we water it down too! Also Mac's has a sour apple and also aberry drink that come in beer bottles but are alcohol free, really handy for a party so don't feel out of place.
I also recently stumbled upon Pam's Lime and Bitters, I prefer it over other ready made lime and bitters as this is more dry, was really surprised!

Lime Mint Iced Tea

simple iced tea, with a twang of lime and hint of mint. It's both sweet and tart at the same time. The lime juice will be much better flavoured if freshly squeezed.
INGREDIENTS:
• 1 quart water, boiling
• 4 tea bags
• 1 3/4 cups fresh mint leaves
• 1/4 cup sugar
• 1/4 cup lime juice
PREPARATION:
Mix tea bags, mint and sugar in hot water, and let steep for 15 minutes. Strain out the tea bags and mint leaves. Chill and add lime juice before serving.
Serves 4

Homemade Iced Tea
INGREDIENTS
Serves 6 to 8
6 English Breakfast teabags
2 pints/1. 2 litres boiling water
10fl oz/275ml freshly squeezed orange juice, chilled
squeezed juice of 1/2 lime

elderflower cordial mixed with soda water or sparkling mineral water. Float blueberries and mint leaves in it.
1/2 orange, sliced
1/2 lemon, sliced
2 level tablespoons caster sugar
about 12 sprigs of fresh mint
plenty of ice
METHOD
• Firstly make up some very strong tea (use a ceramic teapot wherever possible) using the teabags and boiling water. Add the caster sugar and about a third of the mint and then give it a good stir. Leave to infuse for 15 to 20 minutes.
• Remove the tea bags and leave the tea until completely cold. Remove the mint sprigs.
• Part fill a large jug with ice and pour the cold tea into it. Now top up with the freshly squeezed orange juice, the lime juice and another third of the mint sprigs. Finally add the orange and lemon slices and then give it a really good stir.
• Serve the iced tea in tall glasses with lots of ice, decorated with a slice of lemon and small sprig of mint.

Rachel’s Punch
1 litre strong tea
1 cup sugar
1 or 2 cups cordial (lemon, lime or orange) - I use Roses Lime Cordial from the supermarket - put it in undiluted.
3 litres fruit juice (orange, grapefruit, pineapple)
Allow to cool.

3 litres lemonade
3 litres gingerale
TOTAL = 10 litres or 50 glasses

Make the tea, and after about 20 mins pour onto 1 cup sugar, and stir till sugar is dissolved. Add the cordial and fruit juices. Chill this mixture in two containers of equal amounts. When ready pour one container of mixture into punch bowl (or large mixing bowl) adding 1. 5L of chilled lemonade and gingerale. Make up the second 'batch' when ready. You could make up the whole amount if you have a large enough bowl/bucket!

"college punch"

2 quart pineapple juice
2 quart apple juice
2 quart orange juice
1 quart ginger ale
1 quart orange Sorbet
1 strawberry for garnish

I didn't measure in quarts (what is a quart? ? ? ), but measured it using ratios.

2 (whatevers, cups, litres, you choose) pineapple juice, 2 apple juice, 2 orange juice, 1 whatever for gineraplee, and 1 whatever of sorbet.

I used lemon, but orange would still be good.

I love elderflower cordial - diluted with soda water, rather than tap water.

I love the recipe for College Punch - see animal's post for the recipe.

Old fashioned homemade lemonade that can be diluted with water or soda water. Remove the zest of 3-4 lemons with a potato peeler and add to the juice of the lemons, 675 grams of sugar &30 grams each of citric and tartaric acid. Pour over 900 mls of boiling water and allow to steep overnight before straining and bottling. My recipe says to dilute 5 to 1 but I find that far too strong so start with a little and build up to your preferred strength.

any flavour juice (100% fruit juice) mixed with diet lemonade is my drink of choice at the moment

dulouz, Apr 27, 9:17am
Second that, love it with soda water from the soda stream.

natalie9, Apr 27, 6:19pm
Grapefruit and cranberry juice mixed together yum. If you find it too sweet add soda or plain water

I enjoy the Phoenix range of juices. Also the simply squeezed feijoa smoothie is nice

alebix, Mar 10, 1:41pm
If you use either sparkling mineral water and add some fruit syrup (as mentioned above) to it... .
Or get a soda stream, its not overly fizzy and you can use fruit syrups, sachet drinks, soda stream flavourings ( sugar frees ones are nice and they have a really nice raspberry and cranberry one).

As cookessentials said the feijoa smoothie is really nice. .
