Im goingto make a steak pie , would i need to bake the pastry before i put the meat in it to bake it.

No it won't. I've made alot of pies in my time & have never baked the pastry first. Never had soggy pastry either :) Hope this helps.

I find that it stops a soggybottom, if the meat is hot when it is placed in the pastry.

It's funny pam.delilah - I find the complete opposite :) Everyone's got a method that works for them. Happy pie making jurseygurl.
