whether you can make a Lemon Meringue Pie using a sponge cake bottom instead of pastry?

If I were to try it I would chill the sponge cake first and then put the lemon filling on and then add the meringue and bake.It should only take about 10 minutes and sponge cold and covered with the filling it might not dry out.

I use a biscuit crumb base its easy and tastes great :)

I agree with duce3 suggestion.
If you google Baked Alaska or Alaska bake there are some recipes that you could adapt by taking out the ice cream as you probably know, Baked Alaska has a sponge based, icecream filling & meriqune topping.I saw there were some recipes using lemon curd.Hope this helps.Look forwrd to hearing how it went.
