Knives

Last month I made a post about fry pans and forum members directed me towards a 'Lodge" frypan. Love it, best pan I have ever owned.

Now I need an A grade quality kitchen knife. I'm off to the King of Knives after I get feedback from you guys. What brand have you had most success with?

Global.

Some of the best knives are Victorinox, Global, Wusthoff and Zwilling ( Henckels)

if you are going to a knife specialist, they will be able to guide you as to which is the most suitable for your needs and budget. That's what I love about specialty shops, the know their stuff.

House of knives no longer sell Globals so I brought a set of Zwilling (Henckels)
Cheers all.

You wont be disappointed with the Zwilling. I have the 8 pce block and they are wonderful...I have many a customer who is pleased with their purchase of them too.

fyi, House of Knives and King of Knives are completely different. Imo, the former has better prices and wider range.

Victorinox...they are the best, but NOT cheap

cookessentials, Apr 12, 4:11am
Victorinox are alot cheaper than Henckels and I agree, they too are wonderful knives. Another good brand is Knifecut which is mainly sold to butchers and abbatoirs...they have an entry level range as well as fully forged and do all the unusual knifes such as hunting knives, boning and filleting knives etc. The choice made by poster #1 is an excellent one.

My bad, Brought from King of Knives. The sales person was great. Did not try and up sell me and gave me all the facts. I gave her the budget and she stuck to that.

We were lucky enough to get a set of Henckel knives for a wedding present from my sister and 14 years later they are still awesome, we love them. However, recently a friend of mine gave us a Scanpan Spectrum knife and I use it every day it is my current favourite and I think a lot cheaper.I know it depends on your budget but you can always keep adding to your set.Good luck!

I would be very surprised if you have the Scanpan knife in 14 years, however, you will more than likely still have the Henckels in 28 years.

We have a range of good quality knives including French (Sabatier - carbon steel) and German ones but our all time favourite is an ancient carbon steel, wooden handled Green River one - probably had it 40 years! Razor sharp but need immediate rinsing if it is used on acidic food like citrus or tomatoes.
