When to pick pears for bottling?

Hi I have lots of pears on my tree and want to bottle them. Do I bottle them while they are still firm or wait until they ripen?

Pears generally don't ripen on the tree.I just pick mine when I feel like it and bottle.Works perfectly.

Don't wait until they ripen on the tree - they will have soft brown cores and turn to mush.

Make sure you are bottling the right breed of pear as well, some pears are not worth the effort to bottle.

Agree with elliehen - have peeled, sliced, gently poached then frozen some this year - still quite a few on the tree to go though.
