What is the difference between Allspice and Mixed

Spice please? Which is best in hot cross buns? Thanks.
My impression is that allspice is much stronger and you use less.

Looks like allspice is more peppery.

To my knowledge, Allspice is for savoury sdishes and Mixed spice is for sweet such as your hot cross buns.

Thanks. I just came across a HC bun recipe that used allspice, and I thought that was a bit unusual.
I associate allspice more with savoury preserves.

bedazzledjewels, Allspice is ONE spice that is aka pimenta/pimento - I have some that's actually called "Pimento Allspice". Mixed Spice is a mixture or blend of spices.
Which you use for Hot Cross Buns would depend on the recipe you're using. For a spicy fruit bread that is similar to the spicy fruit bread that can be bought I make a spice blend that is similar to the blend that used to be available at Bin Inn and for that blend I use allspice. Here's the link to the spice blend recipe that I use:-

Brilliant - thanks to you both.

I thought that allspice was a single spice - like cinamon or nutmeg or whatever...
And mixed spice was a combination of different spices... (not sure which ones though)

Whilst at the supermarket late yesterday, as a matter of curiosity, I checked out mixed spice and just which spices it is a mixture of, so here's what Gregg's mixed spice consists of:-

coriander, cinnamon, pimento, ginger, cassia, nutmeg, cloves. :-))
