What is "hing" please?

I saw it as an ingredient in a recipe

a spelling mistake?

It's a spice. Mediterranean or indian. Maybe both.

Hing is asafoeteda. It is a powdered resin used in Indian vegetarian cooking.

Is that the ingredient used when onion is not included in the recipe?

lurtz, Mar 31, 5:30am
Hi Retired. Yes, it is used as a spice when onions are not favoured. It's available from many spice outlets online, and if you Google Pataks, and Hing, there's more information. I bought a book off you a long time ago, however I've always remembered your name because you were so nice: -)

Hi uli! Any rain up your way? Dry as a bone here.

No rain at all since October really. Had a few downpours in February which lasted for a couple of days - but nothing since. We will get water restrictions in town too from next week probably (after Easter). Still have some water, but have to watch it now what we use it for. I am getting the winter veges established now, so they need daily waterings to get going. Forecast is for rain in May or June ...
