after several years languishing in the garage i decided to dig out my preserving jars and kit. to my dismay the preserving rings are coated in surface rust. are these still okay to use, even if i cleaned them up? sorry if this sounds like a stupid q..

sure they are, they don't actually touch the food, give them a good scrub with a goldilocks to get the rust off and then dry them in the oven.

Remove rings from jars the next day after they have sealed & rub vaseline on the inside of the rims, helps to prevent the rust while in storage
