If I am buying it from the supermarket I usually buy the Genovese brand. They do both basil and a nice sun-dried tomato one.

From the deli section definitely. not the sealed jar ones in the pasta section.
Very easy to make though if you have access to basil.
I make it and freeze in ice block trays then free flow freeze.
then you can bulk out the basil with parsley too, change the nuts etc.

I second the Genovese brand. It has the least amount of additives and no sugar.

I third it, it is one of the nicest ( if you dont make your own) They also do a lovely mint pesto which is even nicer than the Basil one.

you could always make your own! I grow basil so that's a start!
Basil Pesto
50gr cashew nuts
1-2 cups basil leaves
2 tsp minced garlic
½ tsp salt
½ cup olive oil
50 gr parmesan cheese

Place all ingreds into the food processor & blend until smooth & creamy. Keep in fridge.

I make my own to when possible and was told that I should leave the parmesan out if I'm freezing it and add it when I thaw it.This is to preserve the quality as the cheese does not freeze solid.I having been doing this since, because when I checked on Google it did seem to be quite a wide recommended tip.Not sure that I can really pick the quality difference but perhaps it lasts longer.I freeze in ice cube trays to add to sauces, soups, etc.
