What is Anisette and does it go with Pork?

I stumbled across this recipe for ginger pork while looking for thai recipes; I realise this isnt quite Thai cuisine but I am curious to know what exactly anisette is? I figured its some kind of liquer...?

Is it worth a try?

It is an aniseed flavoured liqueur, often served in Portugal and Spain.

Seems a bit strong to go with pork but I suppose it would definitely add some zing to the pears!

The recipe doesn't read well to me.4oz of brandy is such a lot to deglaze the pan.Anisette is a very sweet liqueur and1 cupin the pears would be overwhelming.I can't see it working with the capsicums.

I'd try something else if I were you.

And no. it's not Thai cuisine at all.Is it presented as Thai?

No no, it just came up in a search for ginger and pork (as it should I suppose :p)

1 cup of anisette was what made me ask actually; I had it in my mind that it was an aniseed flavour but I thought it must be weak or flavoured with something smoother. I don't think i'd use Anisette, or not nearly as much anyway.

Aniseed is quite an aquired taste

It sure is.Especially combined with capsicums and pears!

Yes! I enjoy the quirkyness of that website, its always good for bizzarre recipes, most of them are edible, but some are more like this one where your eyes switch sockets temporarily.
