Want to make a chewy pavlova

Mine are always crisp on the outside, Marshmelloy on the inside. But we all love the chewy ones. Can anyone help

Have you tried spreading the mixture into a flatter, wider shape? That seems to help.

my mum always makes chewy pavs. She uses old butter wrappers instead of baking paper, so maybe that's why?
