Getting the smell out of pop top lids

samsnan, Aug 18, 4:23am
I have a lot of pop top jars that have had pickle or similar in them. How can I get the pickly smell from the lids. I have used all my other jars for marmalade and debating whether to just go ahead with the pickle ones. I dont want to taint the marmalade and I dont want to use wax. Anyone any ideas? I need to make 50jars for a gala day and have used all my spare jars. Have done 35 to date.

Put them in the freezer for a couple of days.

Have you tried baking soda?

You mean soak them in the sink with baking soda in warm water cooks

Or you could make a wet paste and swear it inside each lid and leave for a while before rinsing in hot water.

Thankyou both for your suggestions I will try them both and let you know how I get on.

The op shops all but give boxes of jars away. I would be more concerned about the lids rusting, as they do after being used for pickles. Ask everyone to save there jars for you.
