Mock cream

I have just had 2 attempts at making mock cream. have made if before, but won't thicken this time. i used 2 tablespoons each of sugar, butter, and boiling water. Is it because I used Margarine? Any help or suggestions much appreciated. thanks

4Tblsp water
1 oz sugar
1 Tsp gelatine
Few drops vanilla

Dissolve gelatine in boiling water and let cool. Cream butter and sugar. Beat the dissolved cooled gelatine into the butter an sugar gradually. Add vanilla... . double this if you wish
