Scone type topping for left over stew

I mix up 1 or 2 cups self raising flour, depending how many needed, pinch salt, grate some butter in rub into mix, chop some herbs in, or teaspoon mustard, or 1/3 cup leftover mashed pumpkin if you have it, or leave plain add enough cold water to make a soft dough spoon on top of bubbling hot stew and cook till risen and golden.
Another topping that's good is slices of buttered garlic bread layered on top of hot stew, then sprinkle with grated cheese and some paprika then baked till top is crispy and golden.

Thanks to both of you, used dumpling recipe this time but will try fifie's next time!
