Preserving jar sizes

lesleyd3, Jan 4, 3:41am
I am quite new to preserving tomatoes etc and am a bit stuck about jar sizes. For my usual pasta sauce it takes 2 x 400 Gm tins of chopped tomatoes and that seems to come out at 700ml once cooked.
Most jars I have seen are 500mls which makes it too little or too much to get to that sauce amount.
Are there slightly bigger jars?
Dumb question I know but i don't want to waste the effort hubbie has done in the greenhouse
Thanks

I save all kinds of jars for preserving. You aren't restricted to preserving jars.
Jam jars, pasta sauce jars etc. Just gather enough for the amount you need.

Are you buying the jars new.

Have a look on the Arthur Holmes website

Find its easier to make heaps of sauce every year for pasta etc and freeze in the ziplock bags, they stack really good and flat don't take up much room just use whatever amount you want. if you want large jars

Use the pop-top type jars, sterile the lids in boiling water, the jars in the oven - any size can be used and they're usually available cheaply at Opp shops.
