for the past few years. I have discovered (or my electrical brother did) that while cleaning it one day I have either bumped or popped the temperature wire thingy that goes on the right hand side at the top of the oven. I now have to to get a new one put in (lucky he can do it) so I look forward to baking some good scones again. Just saying to you all be careful when wiping out your oven.

Oh dear . you must be good if you managed to use it for this time. Enjoy the difference & pleased for you that you've solved the problem. I loath my oven as well, it cooks unevenly, even on fan bake, it's too small & my NY resolution (one of them) is to replace it. It's in a sort of panel arrangement, with the microwave above & to get a twin oven, or a taller one, I might have to relocate the microwave, which is really just a defrosting machine in my house anyway & I do have room & the power for it in the pantry. I don't mind hard work, but I do mind if my 'tools' are inefficient . don't we all?
