Mm about lunch box suggestions I wouldn't put custard with fruit in a child's lunch box unless I was sure the lunch box was well insulated orrefrigerated. I would think that custard sitting at room temperature for half a day was an invitation to food poisoning.

Oven cleaner The other night on that how clean is your house program, didn't the lady use equal parts baking soda and salt and water mixed together to clean the oven? I'm not sure but I think that's what it was.

joker13, Jun 12, 11:32pm
Yes it was as you posted and she dabbed it on heated the oven for an hour I think then wiped with detergent and hot water.
Anyone got the refrigerator biscut recipe?

kob, Jun 13, 6:26pm
baking soda and vinegar mixed together is a great stainless steel cleaner it froths abit to start with and then looks like jif at the end but makes your shower tray look beautiful, i missed the episode where she cleaned the oven with those ingredients but i know the salt & baking soda are great cleaners and natural as well

Kob Lovely to see you back, how was your holiday? ? I am hanging out for one but have decided to forego a holiday this year in favour of the UK & Europe (I have a cousin in the Hague) Christmas 2008... . hard going but as we all know you can't have everything, you have to make choices! So budgeting & saving hard out for the next 18 months. I love goals though keeps me focused. (Add that to major orthodontics for Miss 14 and I have my work cut out for me over the next 18 months)

kennymac, Jun 13, 7:35pm
Oven Cleaner I was given this a few years ago and it seems to work well. 3 TBSP Baking Soda, 1 TBSP Vinegar, 1 CUp Water. Mix together and wipe over a cold oven. Heat oven to 200c and leave to cool. Wash with soapy water.

kob, Jun 14, 7:16pm

maximus44, Jun 21, 8:35pm

fluffylinda, Jun 23, 2:36am

greg.n.michelle, Jun 23, 5:02am
I dont buy cans of beans like kidney chickpeas or Lima beans I cooked them in the crockpot in large ammounts and then freeze then in snap lock bags in 2 cup lots and I think it works out at 50 cents a bag as to $2. 50 a can well worth the effort

juliewn, Jun 23, 7:50am
Bumping for Sarahmac, . , , Michelle... the beans taste much better when home cooked too. . hadn't thought of cooking them in the crockpot. . will try that thanks. . much safer to leave boiling than a pot on the stove, when I'm wanting to do other things. .

greg.n.michelle, Jun 23, 8:48am
yes Julie I am well known for putting things on and wandering off to do something... . the crockpot often saves my butt. I have been making Lima bean dip lately really nice texture and can use much less oil and tahini than with chickpea's

toadfish, Jun 23, 6:53pm
Hi Michelle I have a bag of dried Chick peas in the cupbard, How do I cook these in the crockpot, ie how much water and is the water boiling to start with, and how long to cook them. Miss 14 has decided to become a vegetarian *Rolls eyes heavenwards* I have convinced her that some vegetarians eat chicken and fish, as some do, but when we have red meat she has been having beans and chickpeas (from a can)Think its just a phase but would be good to turn the dried chickpeas in the cupboard into emergency meals in the freezer.

goldgurl, Sep 28, 8:08pm
good lord Glendeb... how many pieces do you allow per meal? I buy those 5kgs bags for our family of 6 and it only does our family 3-4 meals.

Simple Savings Is anyone on here a vault member of Simple savings website?

glendeb, Sep 30, 1:42am
Bump for dasfi

glendeb, Sep 30, 1:54am
goldgurl, I have lots of reipes - esp Sophie Gray ones that use only a small amount of chicken (but with added protein like peanut butter) per meal. Like her peanut chicken and rice recipe you only need 1-2 chicken breasts (I use 1), or her magic chicken pies use only 1 chicken thigh. Also I like to make chicken salad (with lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, cheese, avo, and homemade croutons with a small amount of chicken), using only one to teo pieces of chicken. I am really strict on the amount of meat we eat as we simply can't afford extra.
