I have often heard it mentioned as a drink in America but does anybody have a recipe for it preferably without sugar as i am diabetic

Long Island iced tea is an American beverage, however, it is highly alcoholic LOL.
A number of the fruit teas from TLeaf Tea in Wellington are lovely iced, however, I am not sure if they are suitable for you being fruit ( ie sugar!)

Make a brew of tea . Allow the tea to steep for no more than 5 minutes, otherwise it may become bitter.
Allow to cool further then serve in glasses.

You may want to add an artificial sweetener - optional
Variations:

Sprigs of mint and ice .

60 ml of lemon juice.

Peel of 1 orange and 3/4 cup orange juice (to 4 cups water)

I drink it a lot, brew some standard tea (2-3 bags), I add a bag of cammomile, and a bag of jasmine and half a cinnamon quill as well, steep for about 5mins.Slice up an orange. Pour over ice. This makes about 1.5ltrs. I like to add a little honey. But do whatever, a vanilla pod with some blackberry tea is nice, or some turkish apple.Basically you can just use straight tea, as above, or you can flavour it however you want like I do, yum
