When to apply oil on barbecue?

I am a novice at barbecue cooking. When do I apply the cooking oil - when I turn the heat on, or after it's come up to temperature!

Lightly oil the food not the bbq.

I wait until the BBQ is up to heat and then use very little oil, just enough to stop the food sticking.Reallyh doesn't matter when you put it on as long as the BBQ is hot before you put the food on

I use the Magic Tinfoil - nothing sticks and no cleaning up

Did you not realise that it is a Kiwi custom that the male member of the family presides at the BBQ! And the 'little woman' has a night away from the stove.

Try telling our lazy husbands that. At least if I cook I know it's done how I like otherwise he chars everything lol

I think I'm married to your husband!
Gilligee, you must come round to show my hubby how it's done. At present he excels at pouring wine.
