Before you put fondant onto a cake board to you put a sugar syrup on both so that the fondant will stick to the board before putting the cake on top!

I usually put sugar syrup on the board, then place the syrup side down onto the rolled out fondant, cut around to the desired shape and then using whatever I rolled the fondant onto as a 'brace' flip it over, smooth out if needed and leave to dry.Have also used the other method of putting the cake onto the board and then using a rolled out, strip of fondant, unrolling it onto the board.Syrup only on covered board, not on fondant.You don't want to use too much sugar syrup.
