Shortbread & New Year

cookiebarrel, Jan 2, 2:46am
Terrible me, mine for us on New Years Eve came out of the oven half an hour before midnight.I had given my earlier made shortbread away and although I had a packet of the (cringes) bought stuff in the pantry, really didn't want to let myself down this year by not having homemade in the house.Glad I did as it was delicious.Dogs prefered the homemade as well. All shared the shortbread, but only the humans had the whiskey!

No to storage. It will go soft.
Also, it's a product made with fresh butter, so will keep about as long as butter would. It starts to get a rancid taste.
Mine would keep about a fortnight before you can taste the age in it. But it never lasts that long.

I was brought up to consider shortbread essential to New Year's Eve.Many many years ago my mother told me it should be made at least a week before.I can't find that suggestion anywhere.Who thinks that shortbread should be stored before eating!

Sounds as if it worked for your mother.

Auld Lang Syne:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind!
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!
Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my jo,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne.
The Translation
Should old acquaintances be forgotten
And never be remembered!
Should old acquaintances be forgotten
and days long ago.
Chorus:
For days long ago, my dear,
For days long ago
We'll drink a cup of kindness yet
For days long ago!
