Wanting to do some cheese straws or something like that to go with antipasto dish. Have bought crackers but wandered if I should add straw sticks as well as wont be having bread at this stage. (Cos I cant face going back to the supermarket). Thanks

Nice and easy, get ready rolled pastry brush with beaten egg dust with grated Parmesan cut into "straws" then bake.
Alternatively sprinkle grated cheese on one half of the pastry fold over then roll to the original thickness cut then bake. You can also brush with egg and sprinkle with flakey salt. Happy baking

From my nana's hand written cook book she used from the 1920's:

CHEESE BUSTERS

1 Cup flour
2 Cups Cheese
Pinch cayenne
salt (didn't say how much)
1 1/2 level tsp baking powder

Mix with water to a stiff paste
Roll thin
Prick with fork
Cut into lengths
Bake 350 F

I'm doing one similar to kerry.jeremy's but adding toasted sesame seeds sprinkled before cooking. You can also sprinkle them with poppy seeds which looks great (but I have heaps of sesame seeds left from something else). Before you bake the straws you can twist them into spirals so they look more interesting (and are a bit more sturdy) when cooked.
