I am so confused - which oats are which?

I have been typing up my stash of recipes I have collected from magazines over the last few months. So far I have had recipes calling for rolled oats, traditional oats, whole oats, oatmeal, porridge oats and one recipe saying "do not use quick oats" - An oat is an oat is obviously NOT an oat ! Can someone please clarify the difference please as I know the UK and USA use different terminology for the same thing. I have tried to google it but without much luck in clarifying my confusion. Thank you in advance.

ace441, they're all oats but it depends on how they're processed and the level of processing.Have a look at:-
http://shop.countdown.co.nz/#url=/Shop/SearchProducts%3Fsearch%3Doats There you will see that there are indeed rolled oats, wholegrain oats, "quick cook oats".For your receipe that says "do not use quick oats" I would suggest that you simply use rolled oats - IMO that is the 'oat' that would be the general purpose one for most recipes and for porridge and muesli.
Through the Listener there is access to info' re thedifference, in production and food-analysis content, between rolled oats, oat bran and oatmeal, but only as a subscriber - have a look at:-

Hope that helps.:-))

Yeah, I use normal Rolled Oats for anything that required oats.
The quick cook oats they refer to are like the Uncle Toby's <like, 90 second porridge>.
