Can you roast in a slow cooker?

Yes and no. A lot of people in here reckon they can roast in their slow cooker. However, it is more like 'stewed' in its own juices. An oven roast is slightly different. I like mine still pink, firm, succulent and tender with little shrinkage and I can achieve that better in an oven than I could in a slow cooker. I also like the 'crunchy' effect that roasting has on the upper layer of skin and fat that oven roasting gives.

I often use the timer on the oven. set a roast to come on at the right time, get home from work at 5.30 in the col and dark in the middle of winter and walk in to the smell of a yummy roast. if I am organised I will have the veges peeled before I left in the morning so they are ready to go on too. I have used the slow cooker to do the pudding as well.

The only way to find out is to try it for yourself. Slow cooking is not an every day way of cooking, but more like a convenient way.Fab to use if you are away for the day. So what if it's a bit overcooked once in a while, the meat still tasted dam good, especially arriving home late and starving in the Winter time.Use the darn thing, why else would you buy one.

I love whole chicken in the crock pot. Just as good as roasted in the oven.Not tried lamb though.
