just about anything,just substitute white sugar for brown.

i prefer to use brown sugar when making chocolate cakes anyway - gives a much better result I reckon

Here's one for you - quick, easy and yummy :)
Date or Chocolate Chip Square
200g butter 1 cup brown sugar 2 eggs ½ tsp vanilla essence 2 cups flour 1 rounded tsp baking powder 1 cup chocolate chips or chopped dates
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla essence, and beat well. Sift in flour and baking powder, and add dates or chocolate chips. Mix well. Spread the mixture into a greased swiss roll tin (approx32 x 22 cm), and bake at 180⁰ for 15 to 20 minutes, or until lightly browned. Allow to cool before cutting into squares.
